The message scientists sent us, sounds loud and clear: both climate change and the loss of biodiversity have devastating consequences for our health, our prosperity and wellbeing, and for sustainable development as a whole.

They mutually reinforce one another.

Urgent action to address these threats in an effective and coherent manner is needed to fulfill the vision of the 2030 Agenda for present and future generations.

We ought to drastically alter the way we consume and produce. We must think differently and creatively.

Belgium is ready to take its responsibility and to raise ambition for a strong Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, a key instrument for reaching the SDGs.

My country is committed to the actions set out in this Pledge for Nature.

As a firm believer in dialogue and cooperation, Belgium will always seek common solutions for global challenges. This planetary emergency involves all of us. We have to act together.
